Frankfort Community Public LibraryGardens
Washington Hawthorne The Frankfort Library has large perennial gardens surrounding the entire building. These cottage gardens were planted by library staff and include many traditional plants as well as more unusual varieties such as old English roses, clematis, Siberian iris, honeysuckles, copper beech, foxgloves, and baptisia. The garden in front of the Carnegie Building was inspired by Monet's gardens and includes irises, poppies, climbing roses, clematis, pink and red fringed oriental poppies, oriental lilies, and evening primrose. One full-time gardener is employed nine months of the year. During the summer several part-time interns are hired as well. The gardens were endowed by a gift from John Chandler. The granite meditation fountain was a gift from the Frankfort Garden Club in memory of Jane Farmer, the club's first president.
