CLINTON COUNTY READS 2009 ANNOUNCES CHOICE:

 MARLEY AND ME

FRANKFORT, IN—The Clinton County Reads Committee selected the John Grogan’s heartfelt story about his troublesome golden Labrador, Marley and Me: Life and Love with the World’s Worst Dog as this year Community-wide Read to take place during the month of October, 2009.

Told in first-person narrative, the book portrays Grogan and his family's life during the thirteen years that they lived with their dog Marley, and the relationships and lessons from this period. Marley, a yellow Labrador Retriever, is described as a highly strung, boisterous, and somewhat uncontrolled dog. He is strong, powerful, endlessly hungry, eager to be active, and often destructive of their property (but completely without malice).  (Summary from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marley_&_Me)

This year’s Clinton County Reads Committee includes representatives from:
Community Schools of Frankfort, Rossville Schools, the Frankfort Times, Wesley Manor, Clinton County Adult Literacy Program, Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, Clinton County Family YMCA, Area IV Agency, Clinton County Humane Society, Frankfort Community Public Library, Clinton County Contractual Library, and Friends of the Frankfort Library.

The Clinton County Reads Committee is in the early planning stages with programs involving leader dogs and therapy dogs, a dog walk, a contest for the County’s Worst Dog and “Doggie Bags” for the Clinton County Humane Society.  Individuals, book clubs and other organizations are encouraged to read and discuss the book during October.

This is the 3rd annual Community Read. In 2007, the community read the Chicano literature classic, Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. In 2008, Clinton County read Catherine Ryan Hyde’s inspirational novel, Pay It Forward.
